 Ultra Europe released its long-awaitedofficial 2014 aftermovie on its on November 20, 2014, providing thehighlights of the four-day festival in Split and the island of Hvar whichproved to be the biggest event in a busy festival season on the Croatiancoast.Ultra Europe, which is now in its second year, took place over three daysat the Poljud Stadium in Split, home of famous football club Hajduk Split,followed by a one-day beach party on the exclusive island of Hvar. The musicfestival, which will be back on Split, Hvar and Vis next year for a full weekin peak season, has been credited with raising the profile of Croatia as aparty destination, as well as bringing tens of thousands of tourists to theDalmatian coast.While the main destination of Split has been broadly welcomed,the decision to host a beach party in Hvar Town on Croatia's most exclusiveisland during the peak of the season has proved a little more controversial.Asthe home of organised tourism in Europe in 1868 and the only island in theworld with four UNESCO heritages, questions have been raised about the need tohost such a festival in one of the busiest weeks in the tourist calendar onHvar, which is traditionally packed with high-spending tourists attracted tothe island for its culture, gastronomy and pristine waters.The imposition of ahigh-profile music festival, as well as the growing trend of party tourism viaUltra partners such as The Yacht Week has led to petitionsfrom residents to put a haltto party tourism, a petition which was unanimously upheld by the Hvar TownCouncil.The unanimous decision has had little effect, with The Yacht Weekannouncing increased operations for 2015, and Ultra Europe extending its programmeto Ultra Week.
